Artist of the Month #03: Rebecca Dawson

Meet Rebecca Dawson – The artist bringing pink, personality and a little bit of magic to the tattoo industry! 💖

This November, we're bringing a splash of pink to the jungle as we introduce our latest Skin Jungle Artist of the Month, the incredibly talented Rebecca Dawson (@rebeccadawson.tattoo)!

If you've come across Rebecca's work before, you'll know that pink isn't just her favourite colour – it's practically her signature! From her tattoo station and equipment to the beautiful artwork she creates, Rebecca has built a distinctive style that's instantly recognisable.

With almost a decade of tattooing experience, Rebecca has developed a particular love for ornamental designs, delicate details and, of course, all things pink. Her journey hasn't been without its challenges, from experimenting with new techniques to taking the leap and relocating her business to a completely new city. But through it all, she's stayed true to her creative vision.

Rebecca also holds a special place in our hearts here at Skin Jungle, having been one of our very first sponsored artists! It's been wonderful having her support over the years, and we're so proud to have her as part of our little jungle family.

We caught up with Rebecca to chat about her tattooing journey, her iconic pink aesthetic, relocating as an artist and why she'd happily tattoo butterflies forever!

When did you start your career in tattooing, and why did you feel drawn to this industry?

"Hey! I started tattooing almost 10 years ago! 💖🌸

I always wanted to be an artist, it was my dream! Only this way, when someone chooses your art, it stays with them forever. I think there's something really special in that!

I was lucky enough to grow up in a home where tattoos were accepted and loved!"

What's your favourite style to tattoo? (Even if it's not your usual!)

"My favourite tattoo style has to be ornamental! I came into the industry when it wasn't maybe as popular. Seeing it develop and thrive over the years has been amazing.

There's such a variety of what comes under the ornamental category, it's amazing to see everyone's perspective!"

What's your favourite tattoo you've ever done?

"My favourite tattoo I've ever done has to be the pink fairy wings! FULL PINK, FAIRY WINGS, the glitz… the glamour… speechless 🥹

I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to bring this tattoo to life!"

You relocated! What tips do you have for artists moving to a new city?

"Relocating was such a scary feeling. Stepping away from the comfort zone of where I built my business was something I never thought I could do, but it was also the BEST!!!

Social media is such a good tool to make connections, definitely use it to your advantage. Stick to your style, as it makes you stand out, make yourself memorable and give your clients an experience! 🌟"

You have such an iconic style! Where did you get the idea to make everything ✨ pink ✨?

"Honestly, I've always been a pink lover from day one! I just feel like it makes sense to me!

Over time, more and more things came in pink. The gloves, the station, the ink cups, the machine… and I wanted to do something I'd not seen anyone else do.

So I thought, if everything else is pink, why can't the tattoos be? 😅

Although it did take a lot of perseverance finding the right colours and techniques 😂 There were many trials and errors, but thank goodness I didn't give up!"

If you could only tattoo one animal for the rest of your career, what would it be?

"Hands down, has to be a butterfly! Such a classic tattoo that will never be outdated, and endless designing opportunities!"

Which Skin Jungle line is your favourite?

"My favourite Skin Jungle scent is the Tiger! But of course, the Flamingo being pink, she just fits my aesthetic so well! 💖💖"

You were one of our first sponsored artists (thank you so much for supporting us!). How would you describe Skin Jungle and how we've grown over the years?

"I honestly absolutely love Skin Jungle! Not just the products but everything it stands for too!

You do so much for others as a small business, not just thinking of yourselves but creating opportunities for your artists too! And the products just speak for themselves!"

If you were deserted in a jungle with only three items, what would they be?

"I don't know whether to go practical with this or just with things that would give me a little bit of happiness in a serious crisis ahahaha!

I'd love to have things that could make a good cup of tea, but I think I'd need more than three! 😂

I'd go with a bag of Magic Stars for happiness, a blanket for comfort and a fly swatter to try and defend myself from bugs, but I'm not sure it would be much help if I run into a tiger! 😂"
